What is known for Buellton ? Many people know as the home of Buellton Pea Soup Andersen, a judgment of the California trip on the preferred route for families with children. In our endless quest to unique destinations California weekend , we decided to visit for Buellton Romeo birthday weekend. What we found was the small city par excellence with super nice people, beautiful natural surroundings, fine restaurants, wineries and distilleries, and fun things to do and see. Buellton is also incredibly dogs, which meant that Rome could spe e her birthday weekend on vacation with our children fur. Top it off with glamping (glamor camping) in a luxury safari tent and you have a weekend in California, which is pretty hard to beat.
I usually let the suggestion of the hotel and the review until the end of an article, but glamping really was the highlight of the trip. I wanted to go glamping since I live on Real Housewives of Orange County do in 2012. Of course, if the Real Housewives did, it meant glamping would be at the bottom of the list of things to do Romeo. However, not only does glamping live up to everything I expected, Romeo was crazy for it too, none of us wanted to leave, and he may even have had a discussion quite impossible to build our own tent safari in our backyard for rainy or hot nights.

Flying Flags RV Resort & Campground is not your typical campground. It's really, really nice. Most of the RV resort is set up for recreational vehicles, as its name indicates. RV pull-through spots have lush green grass strips next to them and there are lots of trees, so that the whole park feels fresh and green. But Flags Flying is not just for people who bring their own accommodation with them. Flying Flags RV Resort & Campground also has unique rooms such as cottages, trailers vintage, airstreams and luxury safari tents.
Flying safari tents flags are the latest addition to their range accommodation. The safari tents are in their own little corner, fenced. We were greeted by a statue of rhinoceros at the entrance, which was the first clue on the theme of Africa. Each tent is named with a name inspired by Africa as the Nile and Tanzania.
The safari tents are huge! We had a comfortable king size bed, a long leather couch, a coffee table, a desk and two chairs plush, plus bedside tables and a lamp. The office is equipped with a toaster, coffee maker, coffee press, cups, glasses, wine glasses, and silverware. Hidden on the shelf of the coffee table were plates, napkins and utensils. Each safari tent has a covered area in front with two Adirondack chairs and a covered back deck with a dining table. in the back is also a grill, sink and integrated work plan. Fences between safari tents add privacy.

The safari tent is built on a platform above the ground and there is a tin timber roof overhead covered, when it rains, you are fully protected. We loved lying in bed at night and hear the tip-tip-tap rain on the roof while the frogs croaking in the distance. safari tents also have a heating / air conditioning unit to keep your tent at the perfect temperature. The tents have a room, but the bathrooms were built nearby. Each bathroom is private with its own toilet, sink and shower. The bathrooms are also climate controlled so that it is warm when it's time to take a hot shower.
Flying Flags RV Resort & Campground offers all kinds of amenities for their guests, including a swimming pool, hot tub, restaurant, gas fireplaces, and outdoor gathering area called the Fireside Lounge.

The station is also very easy dog, including safari tents, and they have a leash dog park too.
But enough about glamping. Once you've ripped from your safari tent, there are so many things to do in Buellton that make this city special.
One hidden gem is Mendenhall Museum of petrol pumps and Petroliana . This is where treasure is transformed into historical archives. The collection was started by Jack Mendenhall. Jack Mendenhall lived in Buellton all his life and had a car shop at the end of the city. In 1957 he bought the property where the museum is currently used and like a lot of demolition.
Jack Mendenhall began collecting fuel pumps and petroliana (collection relating to gas stations or oil industry) in the 1960s Having sold his service station in 1978, he became a selector, out on the road for three to four months at a time sale signs during the day and picking night.

Jack’s son is a contractor by trade and built all the buildings on the property to accommodate properly all the memories of his father had collected. Now the 4,000 signs, 100 petrol pumps, 37 neon signs, and 2,000 license plates are all organized and lovingly displayed in several outdoor rooms of this unusual museum. Each sign, license plate, and the gas pump has a history that can not all be said in one visit. There were a number of regular visitors on our visit that people love the museum and know they will hear and see something new each time they visit.

The museum also houses the responsible Dry Lakes Racing Hall of Fame. The museum is open by appointment, and tours that can be arranged by phone or e-mail, take about two hours. Since the museum is mainly outdoors, it is also well-behaved dogs dogs.
Another fun and unusual place to visit is OstrichLand USA , which is on Route 246 just outside of Buellton. OstrichLand is open daily for visitors to observe and feed ostriches and emus. It's pretty cool to get close to the animals and see how big, strong and they are prehistoric. I would not come face-to-face with an angry ostrich!

Visitors are given with shovels feeding bowls glued on so they can hold on the handles while ostriches and emus peck food. The key is to not be nervous and commit. Also, do not ostriches and emus have to stretch their necks to reach food too.
In addition to the chance to see and feed the birds, customers can buy items ostrich and emu related gift shop as ostrich eggs, jerky, handbags, belts, and more. OstrichLand USA is also surprisingly dogs as long as the dogs are well behaved and will not bark or scare birds.
Buellton is surrounded by the beautiful countryside of the central coast of California. This year it is exceptionally beautiful because El Niño rains have made the cow-dotted hills and many shades of green, in the spring, covered with yellow mustard flowers.
To get an idea of the earth where Buellton is located, and also to see some of the vineyards growing the grapes used to the wine you can taste one of many Buellton wine tasting rooms, take a drive.
We suggests out of Buellton along the 101 towards the coast. Follow Route 1 north until you are almost in Lompoc, then turn right on Santa Rosa Road and follow it back to Buellton. The player takes an hour if you want to add in the extra time to stop and take pictures.

Within Buellton, there is also an opportunity to commune with nature Santa Ynez Valley Botanic Garden . The Botanical Garden is just a little space of land devoted to flowers, plants and trees with a nice trail. The garden can be found at the end of River View Park and is free and dogs.
Buellton is known for wine, but they are starting to cover all aspects of culinary delights. One of the best places to discover the gems of taste Buellton is along Industrial Way. Industrial Way is on its way to be Funk Buellton area, similar to Santa Barbara Funk Zone , a place to enjoy wine farm dining table, confectionery, spirits, and more.

Michele’s Tesora is a handmade candy store that recently opened to the public. Michele candies are delicious sweets made from organic peanut butter, chocolate, organic brown rice crisps and peanuts. They sell five flavors: original, coconut, pretzel, marshmallow and caramel (my favorite are the first three). Tesoro means treasure in Italian, and these bites are really small candy treasures. Romeo says they are the best sweet thing, he never put in her mouth.
Michele used to make the original version of his delicacies for fun and bring them to the parties. People began to offer to pay him to do. She did not think it could really become a business, but his daughters encouraged her to take the leap. She has been selling its wholesale deals for three years and has just opened a shop for public.

Across Tesora the parking Michele is Industrial Eats . Industrial Eats is a farm restaurant table serving local dishes from the Central Coast. In addition to the restaurant, they also have a butcher shop. Industrial Eats is one of the most popular restaurants in Buellton and is busy all day. The menu is presented on butcher paper on the wall and change frequently. There are two wood ovens at the back of the restaurant where they make pizza order.

If Industrial Eats is crowded or if you want to dine with your dog, the best thing to do is place your order and have them delivered right next to Alma Rosa Winery . Then you can enjoy a glass of wine or a glass of wine with your meal. In addition, since Alma Rosa Winery does not serve food, they are the dogs inside and outside.

Brothers Spirits fact Vodka, a vodka sipping is like velvet liquid and is made with Albariño grapes, Tegave, which can only be called tequila because it is made in the US, but is made of 100% blue agave grown in Jalisco and Limoncello, made with Grenache grapes, filtered through the ground coconut shells and infused with organic lemon peel. Brothers Spirits also publish a smoked malt Mesquite Whiskey.
Farther Down Industrial Way is Terravant Wine Company . Terravant Wine Company is a manufacturing operation of the commercial wine churning half a million cases of wine per year. They are also the home of another incredibly popular restaurant in Buellton, Terravant The Winery Restaurant , and wine tasting Wall, which has 52 bottles available for tasting. For the tasting, you get a card that you insert into the wine wall and pour your wine. You pay in volume and can fill your glass with as much or as little as you want. Terravant is one of the first restaurants to introduce one of these wine walls, which have the air pressure control for wine stays fresh.
Next Terravant door is Ascendant Spirits , which was the first distillery to open in Santa Barbara County since the ban. Ascendant Spirits liquor made 11 including four vodkas, gin, corn whiskey, bourbons and two three moonshines. Ascendant Spirits likes to play with flavors, such as using organic strawberries in their moonshine American Star Strawberry Vodka and Lightening pink, limes Goleta in their American Star Caviar Lime Vodka, and ghost peppers in their phantom Chile American Star Vodka.

Not far from Industrial Way is another vineyards Buellton, Standing Sun Wines . In addition to their wine, they are known for their concerts. We thought a concert in a cave would be a fun way to spend an evening, but we were surprised by the caliber of permanent musicians Sun Wines brings to the citizens of Buellton. We learned later talking to some people that Standing Sun Wines has a reputation for introducing great musicians of the city. We left standing Sun Wines with not only the memory of the great wine, food from a food truck, and great music, but also three CDs of two new favorite bands Chi McClean and Wild West .
another great thing about Buellton is small restaurants that have been around for years as one of the main ingredients food is love. We visited two of these places for breakfast.

The first was Pattibakes , which Patti Wicks opened 20 years ago in September. During the week, Pattibakes is open for breakfast and lunch, but the weekend staff get a break and they close early, so they are only open for breakfast. The weekend Pattibakes serves breakfast sandwiches, toast crisp filled with fluffy scrambled eggs. Mine had a southwest flair avocado, chipotle mayo and cheese while Romeo had ham, tomatoes and melted cheddar. What Pattibakes is really known for are baked goods such as cakes, muffins, cupcakes, cinnamon rolls and cookies. I was told to try the carrot cake cake, so I had a go and later enjoyed while wine tasting at Alma Rosa. If you like carrot cake, do not miss the carrot cake cupcakes Pattibakes. Pattibakes has outdoor tables on the covered terrace, is if the dogs all year.

The Another family restaurant in Buellton we visited for breakfast was Restaurant Mother Hubbard . Mother Hubbard was in Buellton serving nearly 40 years, although the current family has "only" detained for 17 or more. Owner Doniece Parson is a must in the restaurant. She knows everyone, or get to know them, and is constantly moving around checking on everyone and making sure they are happy. Hubbard is the mother favorites old, some with a twist. For example, I had the Hubbard Benedict with bacon, poached eggs and hollandaise sauce of red pepper on top of flaky biscuits campaign. Rome had the corned beef hash, a recipe that the family Parson has developed over the years. They brackish beef in their wooden walk-in refrigerator for seven to ten days. They cook the corned beef the day before they plan to serve, and then they shred the day of serving. I'm not sure this is the best description, but it kind of tasted like shredded meats, perfectly salty and meaty flavor. There are a few tables outside for dogs seats.
One last thing you need to do on a weekend in Buellton is to have a bowl of split peas Pea Soup Andersen . As a child, we always stopped at Pea Soup Andersen's in Santa Nella on our travels through the summer road and I have very good memories. The original Pea Soup Andersen's in Buellton, and Pea Soup Andersen is responsible for setting Buellton on the map. Denmark-born Anton Andersen and his wife Juliette purchased the land and opened the restaurant there are more than 0 years. Juliette was in France and is responsible for the division pea soup craze. When our weekend in California Central Coast in Buellton was over, I was about to settle. We loved the attitude of small town where everyone knew each other, loved each other, and looked at each other. The surroundings are breathtaking and it feels like the country, but the ocean is only a few miles away. Add food, wine, liquor, candy, and fun things to do, including some unique hidden gems, and you have a perfect weekend in California in the small package of Buellton.
