Long airport stopover and a good time are not generally two concepts that go together. However, you can have a pretty awesome time at the Munich International airport, even with a stop which is more than five hours. On our way to the country of Georgia , we were able to get out of the airport and see Munich during a long layover . On the way back we stop in Munich was shorter and earlier in the day, which does not allow us to leave and explore more of the city. However, Munich International Airport, the seventh largest airport in Europe, gave us many things to do during our long layover.
Our flight Tbilisi left shortly after 5:00 am and arrived just before 7:00. So what do we do when we arrived in Munich early in the morning? Hit the spa of course! Between terminals one and two of the Munich International Airport is the Hilton Munich Airport . Their Fit & Fly Spa welcomes travelers and is perfect for relaxing during a long layover.
Knowing we were going to hit the spa in Munich, I did not bother to shower before going to the airport of Tbilisi and to board our flight. (I promise I will brush my teeth.) Now, if we were that kind of people, we could have worked in the fitness center, but we're not, so we went to the spa. For 20 euros (at time of publication), we could get a pass for two hours at the Fit & Fly Spa. For an extra 10 Euro, which can turn into a day pass.
A go to the Hilton Munich Airport Fit & Fly Spa includes access to the heated indoor pool, jacuzzi, sauna, gym and changing rooms. We could have also added spa services like massage, but there was plenty to keep us busy for two hours. We also enjoyed the spa cafe and bar could have ordered food. Once we made the soaking and swimming saunaing and we were able to shower and freshen up for our long flight home.
Our next stop after the spa was very clean brewery Munich airport, Airbräu . Sure, it was early morning, but it was five o'clock somewhere, right? Especially when you travel between time zones.
Bavaria is home to half of the breweries in Germany, it only makes sense to have a beer at the airport too. Airbräu opened in 1999 and serves the cheapest beer in Munich (cheap in price, not cheap in flavor). Airbräu brews a lager, a pilsner, a Bavarian wheat beer, and seasonal beer. Airbräu breaststroke million pilsner glasses per year. The beer is brewed in copper vats with local hops.
Airbräu is very popular, not only with travelers through Munich Airport. The brewery is also frequented by locals and thirty thousand people employed at the airport. We took a tour of the brewery as the head brewer Rene Jacobsen. Travelers with a long stopover at Munich Airport can book a brewery tour in advance. If there is not enough time to leave the terminal to visit the brewery, there is a small restaurant in the terminal Airbräu inside security.
The Brewery is located outside of the terminal, but in the central square of the airport. The square is covered with a transparent roof in a diamond shape and shades of white so that when the blue sky shows through, the sight recalls the blue and white Bavarian dress arms.
Events are held in the central square, which can accommodate 00 people. In summer, there is a surf pool, beach bar, and tennis courts. Of course, this is all outside the airport security area. Travelers with carryon luggage must not lugging all while exploring Munich Airport has to offer. Luggage can be stored in one of Airport Service Centers.
Sheltered in the two terminal but yet somewhat outside, is the terrace visitors. This large area offers a view of the airport and runways. There are telescopes to get an even closer view of the comings and goings of the airport. The terrace is closed to visitors, but has access to fresh air. It is the only terrace of visitors from the airport that opened after 9/11.
Travelers with children can visit the park visitors, which is outside the airport terminals with a short train. Park highlights include The visitors opened historic aircraft for tourism, mini-golf, a playground and the hill that offers visitors a panoramic view of a terminal and runways.
Travelers who wish to stay inside the airport have many choices. After all, Munich airport is considered one of the best airports in the world, currently ranked number three on the World Airport Awards and the only European 5-star rating airport.
The Munich Airport did his best to have local suppliers in their walls. In addition to Airbräu in terminal, there is also a Dallmayr location in the terminal, a café and a Munich deli that has been around since the year 1700.
The the airport is set up so that each component is parallel, each divided by a corridor of one kilometer. The first section is security, is next to shops, and is next to the doors. Between each second door is a station for coffee and free tea.
The Munich Airport is also set up to relax. There are all living stations throughout the airport and reclining on doors. Travelers who want to nap can enjoy one of the sleeping rooms outside work well. The napcabs can be booked per hour and paid by credit card. Inside, a bed, an alarm clock, and a place to connect.
We had a great time to visit the spa and exploring Munich Airport during our long halt. It seemed as we climbed our flight in no time. Forget sit for hours waiting to go home, use your time to Munich airport stopover wisely and enjoy all this top-rated airport must offer.
